Shifting Mathematical Mindsets

This programme is based upon a year long development project with 20 secondary schools across the North West of England. Within England we often find culturally ingrained beliefs about mathematics amongst pupils - namely that you are either a maths person or not and that only some can "do" maths. This Work Group will look at actual classroom practices that help shift pupils' beliefs about what it means to do mathematics. Within the development project last year, a large majority of pupils went from believing that mathematics "involves mostly facts and procedures that need to be learned" to seeing mathematics as a process of problem solving and reasoning.

This Work Group will consist of five workshops over the course of the academic year. Places are limited so please get in touch soon if you are interested. Please see the flyer for further details.
